"She is literally repeating the lies of the Iranian regime"
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) rebuked Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) in a scathing critique over her emphasis on blaming the U.S. for the heightened tensions with Iran's rulers.
"This is a shocking comment from a House Committee Chairwoman. She is literally repeating the lies of the Iranian regime," Crenshaw tweeted.
"What a disgrace," he added.
Crenshaw was referring to a tweet from Waters where she appeared to blame the Trump administration and take Iran's narrative of recent events.
On Thursday Iran shot down a U.S. drone that they said was illegally in their airspace. The U.S. countered that the drone had been in international waters and accused Iran of an "unprovoked attack."
Waters used the Iranian side of the event to bash the Trump administration.
"Trump, you get no credit for so-called stopping the strike against Iran," Waters tweeted. "Why was the unmanned drone in Iran's airspace? Why the surveillance? Don't provoke and then pretend innocence."
"Maxine Waters' hate for Trump runs so deep that she is willing to take Iran's side over the word of our military," Crenshaw charged.
On Monday the Trump administration announced new sanctions against the Iranian leadership.
