Some Dems think the comment was a big mistake

Newly sworn-in Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) said that she was not backing down from a vulgar comment she made about impeaching President Donald Trump, but she sang a different tune when challenged by reporters.

"We're gonna impeach the motherf***er!" she said during a private MoveOn.org event on Thursday in Washington D.C.

After the furor over the comment hit social media, Tlaib responded from her Twitter account on Friday.

"I will always speak truth to power," she tweeted simply, adding a hashtag for "unapologetically Me."

But later when she was challenged by reporters on Capitol Hill about the comment, she would not respond, and ran from the question.

The interaction was caught on video:

"If you're unapologetic about your comments, congresswoman, why not talk to us?" asked one reporter as she walked away.

Some Democrats publicly decried the comments from the first Muslim congresswoman. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said that it was much too early to talk about impeachment "intelligently," and that her vulgarity was inappropriate.
