Facebook employee and LGBTQ advocacy group board member reportedly caught in pedophile sting trying to lure 13-year-old boy claims 'I was flirting'

Jeren Miles, manager of community development at Facebook's Meta, was reportedly caught by a grassroots pedophile-catching operation admitting that he had been sending sexually explicit messages to a person he believed was a 13-year-old boy.

Video of his remarks went viral, prompting Meta to announce that the man in the video is, indeed, Miles — who is now no longer with the company.

What are the details?

According to viral video, Predator Catchers Indianapolis, performing an amateur sting, met Miles at an unnamed hotel, where he allegedly admitted to exchanging disturbing messages with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old boy.

"I was flirting," he said. "I was talking to him. ... [T]here was never any intention of meeting up with him."

Later on the video, Miles acknowledged that he did, in fact, arrange to meet with the person he believed to be the teen boy and said that he gave the person "information."

"I gave a location," he added.

Journalist and author Andy Ngo tweeted the concerning footage and captioned it, "This is so wild. Facebook/Meta's Manager of Community Development, Jeren A. Miles, was allegedly caught in an amateur child sex sting. YouTube channel 'Predator Catchers Indianapolis' live-streamed their interrogation of him."

Ngo also wrote about it in his blog, noting that Miles intended to meet the fictional boy at Le Meridien Columbus hotel in Ohio — the very same place Predator Catchers Indianapolis met him.

Miles, who serves on the board of directors for LGBTQ advocacy group Equality California, has reportedly deleted all instances of his social media presence.

Eric Schmutte of Predator Catchers Indianapolis told Ngo that he was turning over all chat logs, videos, and related evidence to local law enforcement for investigation.

Ngo later tweeted, "Jeren Miles was allegedly caught in a child sex sting that was livestreamed on YouTube channel 'Predator Catchers Indianapolis.' Miles is an LGBTQ activist & serves on the board of directors for Equality California. He's deleted all his social media."

"The man in the video's name is Jeren Miles, 36, of Palm Springs, California. Our team members gained access to his room by knocking on his door and telling them why they were there. He then invited them in for a conversation about his online activity," the spokesperson told Ngo, according to a Friday report from the Post Millennial. "Screen shots of the online conversation are being finalized and will be sent to the Columbus, Ohio and Palm Springs, California Police Departments later today."

What else?

The Post Millennial also reported that Miles previously worked as the director of community affairs for Lyft and visited the Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg when he worked for the company.

Miles at that time said that he was looking forward to partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg to provide them with rideshare opportunities.

A spokesperson for Meta told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Miles is no longer employed at the company.

“The seriousness of these allegations cannot be overstated,” the spokesperson said. “The individual is no longer employed with the company. We are actively investigating this situation and cannot provide further comment at this time.”
