Actor Bruce Willis’ family says he’s stepping away from his acting career after being diagnosed with aphasia.

What’s the background on this?

Aphasia is a neurological condition that affects speech and communication including speaking, writing, and understanding language in both verbal and written forms.

The condition can often be a side effect of a stroke or head injury, but could also come as a result of other ailments including a brain tumor or other degenerative brain disorder.

Earlier this month, Willis made headlines over his concerning demeanor during early 2022 interviews.

What are the details?

A Wednesday Instagram post shared to the family profiles of the 67-year-old actor read, "To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities."

"As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him," the caption continued.

The post added that is is a “really challenging time" for the family.

"We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, 'Live it up' and together we plan to do just that," the post concluded.

The post was signed by Willis’ daughters, wife Emma Heming, and ex-wife Demi Moore.

At the time of this reporting, the post — which features a photo of a smiling, younger Willis — has been liked more than 15,000 times and has received thousands of messages of sympathy and support.
