Famous NBA trainer arrested, charged with rape

An "elite skills" trainer named Robert McClanaghan whose client list includes NBA mega stars Steph Curry and Kevin Durant was arrested Friday in Rhode Island and charged with multiple offenses in connection with an alleged date rape, according to Boston police.

Boston police say that a warrant was issued for McClanaghan's arrest last Thursday in connection with an alleged drugging and rape incident that occurred in downtown Boston. According to NBC News, the arrest reportedly stemmed from an investigation into an alleged date rape drugging incident, and was the result of a joint investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and the Boston Police Department's sexual assault unit. Further details about the incident were not released by police.

McClanaghan was then arrested by Boston Police Department's Fugitive Unit in coordination with police in Warwick, Rhode Island. McClanaghan will reportedly be arraigned Monday in Rhode Island and charged as a fugitive from justice.

McClanaghan also reportedly trains a number of Boston Celtics, including star Al Horford. When reached for a statement, the team told WBZ-TV that the team has no official affiliation with McClanaghan.

In addition to acting as a high-profile athletic trainer, McClanaghan is reportedly a highly sought-after corporate inspirational speaker. WBZ reports that his website indicates that he interviewed former Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this month.

As of Saturday, it was unknown whether any attorney had been retained to represent McClanaghan, and McClanaghan had not issued any comment either directly or through representatives.
