Hillary Clinton compares Trump to Hitler — says 2024 re-election would be 'the end of our country as we know it'

Hillary Clinton compared Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and said that while dictators like Hitler are "duly elected," they typically ease into totalitarian control. With Trump, however, Clinton warned that "Trump is telling us what he intends to do."

While appearing on "The View," Clinton warned that not only would a second term for Trump be worse than his first term, it would also destroy the country.

"I think it would be the end of our country as we know it, and I don't say that lightly," Clinton began in a clip posted to X.

Clinton claimed that upon Trump's win in 2016, she "immediately said, 'Look, we have to give him a chance, we've got to support, you know, the president we have,' and I meant it. I tried really hard."

Clinton then said that after his inauguration, Trump did nothing but "[accuse] people of things, making up facts, denying the size of the crowd at his own inauguration. Everything that I worried about, I saw unfolding."

Trump has endured his own accusations, however, including a 674-day investigation about alleged ties to Russia and nearly 100 indictments of the former president on federal charges.

Clinton also stated that she felt a re-election would be "even worse now" because Trump was "somewhat restrained, believe it or not, in the first term by people who he hired because he thought they would go along with him, and they stood up to him."

"And so now he's going to — if he were ever near the Oval Office again — find people who have no principles, no conscience," Clinton claimed. The new hires would also be "totally tied to his fortunes, literally," she predicted. "Therefore [they] would do whatever he said."

Clinton then began to describe how dictators or oppressive governments are typically freely elected before engaging in totalitarian acts. She immediately compared the potential re-election of Trump to Hitler but seemed to state that Trump's path to becoming a dictator would be more obvious.

"The wreckage is almost unimaginable. ... People would get legitimately elected and then they would try to do away with elections and do away with opposition and do away with a free press," Clinton explained.

"Hitler was duly elected, right, and so all of a sudden somebody with those tendencies — dictatorial, authoritarian tendencies — would be like, 'OK, we're going to shut this down, we're going to throw these people in jail.' They didn't usually telegraph that."

"Trump is telling us what he intends to do. Take him at his word!"
