'I'm taking over this plane': Massachusetts man allegedly attempts to open plane door, stab flight attendant

A Massachusetts man has been charged after allegedly trying to open an in-flight plane's emergency door and trying to stab a flight attendant Sunday, WCVB reported.

"I will kill every man on this plane! So where are they?! ... You don't have Homeland Security. You're not going to try and stop me? So you're all cowards!" 33-year-old Francisco Severo Torres says in a video filmed by a United Flight 2609 passenger.

"Where are they diverting us? Because wherever it is, it's going to be a bloodbath everywhere," Torres is also heard saying.

Torres, of Leominster, Massachusetts, was charged with one count of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon, the outlet also reported.

The incident took place on United Flight 2609, which was heading from Los Angeles to Boston Sunday. About 45 minutes out from Boston, a flight attendant, alerted by an alarm in the cockpit, found the handle of a door on the starboard side of the Boeing 757 appeared to have tampered with and moved to the "disarmed" position.

One flight attendant had reportedly seen Torres near the door and believed him to be the person responsible for the tampering. When attendants confronted Torres, he responded by asking if any cameras showed it was him doing the tampering, the outlet also said, citing court documents.

Other passengers reported hearing Torres ask about the door handle during the preflight safety briefing.

The video above, recorded by a passenger, shows Torres' violent outburst.

One portion of the video shows Torres pulling a weapon out of his jacket. He reportedly thrust it at a flight attendant using a stabbing motion. Torres told investigators he fashioned the weapon from a metal spoon, which he broke in half in the plane's restroom.

Passengers and flight crew worked together to subdue and restrain Torres.

"Person is detained attempted opening of external door, emergency door. That person was subdued and is being detained, however not going quietly he's just laying there with six able bodies on top of him," United 2609's pilot said, according to recordings WCVB obtained of conversations with air traffic control.

Torres was arrested Sunday night at Boston Logan International Airport. He was detained after his initial U.S. District Court appearance pending a hearing Thursday, according to WCVB.
