Israeli officials reached 'significant agreement' with Musk to allow Starlink in Gaza, still needs Israel's approval: Report

Israeli officials announced on Monday that Elon Musk's Starlink can operate over Gaza, but only if it is approved by the Jewish state. The development comes after Musk visited Israel amid being accused of anti-Semitism.

Shlomo Karhi, Israel's minister of communications, took to X on Monday to congratulate Musk on the development, writing: "Elon Musk, I congratulate you for reaching a principle understanding with the Ministry of Communications under my leadership. As a result of this significant agreement, Starlink satellite units can only be operated in Israel with the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Communications, including the Gaza Strip."

"As the State of Israel fights against Hamas - ISIS, this understanding is vital, as is it for everyone who desires a better world, free of evil and free of anti-Semitism, for our children's sake."

"During your time in Israel, I hope that you will be able to gain valuable insight, and that it will serve as a springboard for future endeavors, as well as enhance your relationship with the Jewish people and values we share with the entire world."

The deal has not yet been confirmed by Musk or Starlink, but it would make good on the billionaire's offer to provide internet access to Gaza after the Jewish state cut off communications and internet use while it carried out a ground attack in the region after Hamas militants launched a surprise assault on October 7, according to Business Insider.

Israel's Ministry of Communications and Starlink did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The development seems to be a complete turnaround from the Jewish state's initial position on Musk using Starlink to provide internet access in the region.

Karhi previously noted that if Gaza were to be given internet access, Hamas terrorists would exploit it in an attempt to carry out further attacks against Israel.

Musk's offer to provide Starlink access in Gaza was also met with strong opposition, with some claiming that he was anti-Semitic for doing so.

An X user recently wrote on the platform, "Jewish communties have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them."

"I'm deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest s**t now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don't exactly like them too much."

In response, Musk simply responded: "You have said the actual truth."

It was then speculated that Musk's post hinted at the the "great replacement theory," which suggests that nonwhite immigrants are flooding into the West in an effort to replace the white population there.

Now, it appears Musk has gained the favor of those within Israel's ranks, with Karhi even thanking the billionaire for what he has offered to do in Gaza.

It is not known when or if Starlink will be made available in Gaza.
