Jill Biden gives SOTU invite to Texas woman who went to great lengths to kill her disabled unborn child

First lady Jill Biden is helping keep abortion front and center during the 2024 election season by inviting Kate Cox, a 32-year-old Texas woman who traveled to a neighboring state to eliminate her unborn child with special needs, to attend the State of the Union address with her on March 7.

As Blaze News previously reported, Cox discovered last November that the child in her womb, Chloe, had a condition known as trisomy 18, sometimes referred to as Edwards syndrome. The diagnosis is scary, and as recently as 2019, trisomy 18 was considered "incompatible with life." However, just a few months ago, board members of Support Organization for Trisomy adjusted the language slightly to say that trisomy 18 is "life-limiting," since some children with the condition have not only survived birth but have gone on to live for several years.

According to Live Action, research out of the University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital even suggests that with "aggressive" treatment, "90% of babies born with Edwards syndrome can go home from the hospital, and their five-year survival rate can reach close to 77%."

But despite this encouraging news regarding trisomy 18, Cox, who has two other children with her husband, Justin, decided that the risk of carrying Chloe to term would unduly threaten her future fertility. After the Texas Supreme Court denied her an exemption from the state's fetal heartbeat law, Cox went to New Mexico, where doctors can legally kill unborn babies with almost no restrictions.

Cox's story of gallivanting about the country to find someone willing to kill a disabled unborn child touched President and Mrs. Biden, who called her personally late last month to show their support. Jill Biden also used the opportunity of the phone call to extend to Cox an invitation to the SOTU, which Cox has since accepted. Not only does the invitation indicate that Joe Biden will make reference to Cox's story during his speech, but Cox will have a seat of honor near Jill Biden.

In discussing that phone call with reporters, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre not only incorrectly asserted that unborn baby Chloe was a "nonviable pregnancy" that "threatened [Cox's] life," but she characterized Texas' attempt to protect the lives of unborn children as "extreme."

"It speaks to the moment that we are in now," she said, "when we talk about women having the right to make these deeply personal decisions about their health care that was taken away by the Supreme Court."

With his poll numbers in the tank and illegal immigrants continuously flooding into the country, President Biden, who is Catholic, is hoping that his unfettered support for abortion rights until birth will help him secure the election in November. "As Trump proudly brags he was the one who got rid of Roe v. Wade, paving the way for Republican extremists across the country to pass draconian bans that are hurting women and threatening doctors … one in three women of reproductive age now live under an abortion ban," said a statement from Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.

For his part, former President Donald Trump has embraced his legacy of ending Roe. "For 54 years, they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated. And I did it and I'm proud to have done it," he said at a town hall meeting in Iowa last month.
