Republican Sen. Katie Britt says she suffered 'sudden onset of numbness in my face,' but it 'is not life-threatening'
July 31, 2023
Republican Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama indicated in a statement that she had recently gone to the hospital due to facial numbness.
But the 41-year-old senator said that the health issue has been chalked up to nerve swelling.
"While with my family in Montgomery this past weekend, I experienced a sudden onset of numbness in my face. I was admitted to Baptist Medical Center South for evaluation," Britt noted, according to Chad Pergram of Fox News. "Doctors determined that my symptoms were a result of swelling of a facial nerve, most likely caused by a post-viral infection. A specialist from UAB has subsequently evaluated me on an outpatient basis and concurred with the prognosis and course of treatment."
"My condition is not life-threatening, and recovery could take several weeks. I am grateful for the medical professionals providing excellent care, and my family and I are deeply grateful for your prayers," she added.
Britt took office earlier this year after being elected in 2022.
Former President Donald Trump, who had endorsed then-Rep. Mo Brooks for U.S. Senate in 2021, later rescinded the endorsement in 2022 and eventually backed Britt instead.
"Last year I endorsed Mo Brooks for the U.S. Senate because I thought he was a Fighter, especially when it came to the Rigged and Stolen Presidential Election of 2020. The evidence is irrefutable. Then, out of nowhere, and for seemingly no reason, Mo backtracked and made a big mistake by going Woke at our massive Cullman, Alabama Rally," Trump claimed, according to a 2022 article on al.com.
