Luxury plane smashes onto Florida highway and goes up in flames after both engines stop working, killing 2

Horrifying audio was reportedly captured just moments before a small plane in Florida lost both of its engines and crashed onto a highway around a Naples enclave, according to the New York Post.

The plane that ultimately crashed belonged to HopAJet — a luxury plane company that has been around for over 40 years. The pilot of the Bombardier Challenger 600 told a control tower during the flight, "Hop-A-Jet 823, lost both engines, emergency."

“I’m making an emergency landing. We’re clear to land but we’re not going to make the runway. We’ve lost both engines,” the pilot said just before the audio suddenly went silent. The plane eventually smashed to the ground on Interstate 75.

A second report noted that Brianna Walker said the wing of the jet dragged a car in front of hers when it smashed to the ground. “It’s seconds that separated us from the car in front of us. The wing pulverized this one car."

“The plane was over our heads by inches,” she continued. “It took a hard right and skidded across the highway.”

“It feels unreal, like a movie,” Walker said. “It was seconds between us dying.”

Other witnesses said there was a loud boom and plumes of black smoke puffed into the air around Pine Ridge Road. Gary Elsinger — another witness — said he and his son watched as the plane came crashing down.

“It looked like it was broken in half from the impact, fully engulfed in flames, dark black smoke,” Elsinger said. “My son says, ‘Oh I just saw an explosion.’ I thought it was probably a car accident. As we got closer, we’re like, wait a minute, is that a plane?”'

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were expected to arrive on the scene to "document the scene and examine the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered to a secure facility for further evaluation," according to reports.

Two people died in the tragic accident, per the Collier County Sheriff's Office. The Post reported that one of the plane's wings clipped a vehicle that swung it in front of another vehicle and into a concrete wall.

It is not clear how both engines stopped working mid-flight. An investigation into the plane's malfunction is still ongoing.
