Democratic senator taken to task for eyebrow-raising tweet: 'MAGA Republicans think they know better than women about abortion'

While there are many Republican women who strongly oppose abortion, Democratic Sen. Patty Murray of Washington issued an eyebrow-raising tweet that appeared to ignore that fact.

"It's infuriating that MAGA Republicans think they know better than women about abortion. Here's an idea for them: leave women's health care decisions up to women," Murray tweeted.

Some on social media pushed back against the lawmaker's post.

"Apparently Patty thinks women can't be MAGA Republicans? Patty, please join us at our next meeting, we'd love to introduce you to the many women who are making America great again. Women who are passionate about the God-given right to life for ALL women. In utero included," Yakima County GOP tweeted.

"I'm a MAGA republican 'women' you idiot," someone wrote.

"It's infuriating to me that ultra-leftist politicians continue to lump all women together into a homogenous block as though we’re incapable of independent thought. Not all of us are as excited as you over the thought of dead babies," someone else tweeted.

"This is a NULL statement because it excludes women republicans within the statement. Do better. To go a step further - what impression are you making on republican women? Speaking as if certain women are not in the room seems rather anti-feminist to me," another response read.

Murray has served in the U.S. Senate for just over 30 years.

While leftists bemoaned a Supreme Court ruling last year that overturnedRoe v. Wade, pro-life advocates, including many women, celebrated the decision.

"Having worked alongside Tennesseans to protect the innocent lives of unborn children for years, I applaud today's Supreme Court ruling," GOP Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said in a statement last year. "Despite false claims from the left, this decision will not ban abortion. Instead, it returns the decision to the states and empowers state legislatures with more flexibility to craft policy through the democratic process.”
