NY Times journalist reportedly goes on rant calling Second Amendment supporters 'f***ing a**holes': 'I hope that there is a God in heaven, so He judges you when you die'

A New York Times journalist reportedly called Second Amendment supporters "f***ing a**holes" in a profane rant, Fox News reported.

The remarks, said to be made by journalist Erin Marquis, were reportedly captured on a voicemail and shared to the internet.

What are the details?

A newly released audio recording appears to show Marquis lambasting the Great Lakes Gun Rights group in a voicemail.

On Thursday, Marquis took the organization to task after receiving a press release from the group regarding preserving Second Amendment rights.

The release, according to the outlet, called out Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for attempting to pass new gun control laws in the wake of the Oxford High School mass killing.

In a statement, Executive Director Brendan Boudreau said, "Great Lakes Gun Rights urges the Legislature to reject the politically motivated calls for more gun control and to instead focus on life-saving policies that allow law-abiding citizens to be their own self-defense."

"Just got a press release from the Great Lakes Gun Rights organization about protecting gun rights from Democrats in Michigan and I am literally shaking with rage," Marquis shared in a since-deleted tweet. "I hope there is a God and they met that God someday."

She also shared the group's contact information for people to call out to "make [their] displeasure known."

The group later shared a video that reportedly featured Marquis' angry comments.

"Hi, I'm a journalist with the New York Times. I’m just calling to wonder," a voice was heard saying. "I have two questions. How do you sleep at night? And aren’t you just a bit worried that there might be a hell? And when you meet God, He will send you there? That’s just my only question. The third question, the only people politicizing this seems to be you, because you’re the only people I got a f***ing press release from."

The voicemail continued, "Again, I am from the New York Times, and I’m letting everyone in the New York Times know what kind of f***ing a**holes you are. Congrats on being a laughingstock. You f***ing ghouls. I hope that there is a God in heaven, so He judges you when you die."

A spokesperson for the New York Times told Fox News that the company expects all employees to "behave in a way that is consistent with our values and commitment to the highest ethical standards. We are currently reviewing this matter, which involves an employee of Wirecutter, our product recommendation site, who does not work in The New York Times newsroom."
