Rep. Boebert's ex-husband arrested, slapped with multiple charges days after heated exchange at restaurant

The ex-husband of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) has been arrested and charged with several counts after the former couple went out for an ill-fated dinner last weekend.

As Blaze News previously reported, last Saturday, Rep. Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, went out for dinner at the Miner's Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado, a city of 3,500 residents located in Boebert's district. While there, tensions between the two escalated, perhaps to violence, prompting police to come and investigate.

There are conflicting reports about what happened between the pair, who divorced last year after nearly 18 years of marriage. American Muckrakers, which the New York Post dubbed an "anti-Boebert Super PAC," first broke the story, reporting that the congresswoman had punched Jayson in the face — twice. Though American Muckrakers claimed that Lauren then called police, other reports indicate Jayson called them, claiming to have been the "victim of domestic violence."

An aide for Rep. Boebert offered a different version of events, alleging that Jayson had been acting inappropriately the entire evening, making sexual comments and overall just "being an a**h***." At one point, he made an "aggressive move" toward Lauren, who "put her hand in his face, put her hand on his nose" to rebuff his advances, the aide indicated.

Police arrived and made no arrests at the establishment but told reporters that they would continue to investigate the incident. Jayson called them on Sunday to inform them that he did not want to press charges.

"I don’t want nothing to happen," he told the Denver Post. "Her and I were working through a difficult conversation."

Rep. Boebert, 37, called the events that evening "a sad situation for all that keeps escalating."

"I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested," her statement continued. "I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options."

By Tuesday, three days after the incident at the restaurant, Jayson was arrested and charged with a series of mostly misdemeanor offenses: third-degree assault, prohibited use of weapons, obstructing a peace officer, harassment, disorderly conduct, and third-degree trespassing. Whether the charges are related to the incident at the restaurant remains unclear.

He was taken to Garfield County jail but quickly paid $2,500 to bond out of custody.

Court records indicate that Rep. Boebert has not been arrested recently, though she and her ex have both been arrested in the past. Lauren was arrested for alleged disorderly conduct and missed court appearances. When he was in his mid-20s, Jayson, now 43, pled guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure after an incident at a bowling alley.

The congresswoman did not immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment on Jayson Boebert's most recent arrest.

Jayson Boebert did not respond to the Daily Beast's request for comment.
