New GOP governor to deliver Republican speech after Biden's State of the Union address

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders will deliver the Republican address to the nation on the heels of President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on Tuesday.

"I am grateful for this opportunity to address the nation and contrast the GOP's optimistic vision for the future against the failures of President Biden and the Democrats," Sanders said, according to a press release. "We are ready to begin a new chapter in the story of America – to be written by a new generation of leaders ready to defend our freedom against the radical left and expand access to quality education, jobs, and opportunity for all."

Sanders, who served as White House press secretary during a portion of President Donald Trump's term, was sworn in as governor last month — she is the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who announced a presidential bid in 2015 but dropped out in 2016.

"Americans are still struggling from inflation, a border crisis, record crime, and a failing school system. As House Republicans work to fix these problems in Congress with our Commitment to America, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is addressing them head on with her conservative agenda outside of Washington," House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said. "She is a servant-leader of true determination and conviction. I'm thrilled Sarah will share her extraordinary story and bold vision for a better America on Tuesday. Everyone, including President Biden, should listen carefully."

Last year, Sanders announced that she had her thyroid removed due to cancer.

"Today, I underwent a successful surgery to remove my thyroid and surrounding lymph nodes and by the grace of God I am now cancer-free," Sanders said in a September statement.

GOP Rep. Juan Ciscomani of Arizona is slated to give a Republican address in Spanish after Biden's speech.
