Wild video: Carjackers crash stolen Jeep into school bus, students get jolted by collision — and one suspect tries to escape from cops on foot

Cellphone video captured a scary moment earlier this week when carjackers crashed a stolen Jeep into a school bus with students aboard in Rochester, New York.

The clip showed faint images of students on the bus jolted by Wednesday's collision — none of the 17 students or the driver were hurt, WHEC-TV reported — and then the wild scene as one of the suspects tried to escape from police on foot.

How did it all unfold?

It all started when a Rochester City School District employee was carjacked at knifepoint, WHAM-TV reported.

Police added to WHEC the 51-year-old woman was leaving Rochester School No. 57 around 4 p.m. and loading her belongings into her Jeep when a knife-wielding man approached her. She was injured when the suspect grabbed a necklace and lanyard from around her neck, cops added to WHEC.

Less than an hour later, WHEC said officers spotted the stolen Jeep and tried to get the driver to stop.

As officers called out to the Jeep's occupants, police told WHEC the driver suddenly threw the vehicle into reverse and rammed into a Rochester police car.

Then a chase was on.

"At one point the vehicle was heading the wrong way on Roycroft approaching the intersection at Roycroft and Carter," Capt. Adam Radens told WHEC.

Soon the Jeep and the school bus collided: “At that same moment, a northbound [school] bus school was trying to attempt to cross that intersection when the stolen vehicle did crash into the front of it."

Here's what that looked like on cellphone video:

Witness Raymond Gonzalez captured the crash on his cellphone, WHAM reported: "I heard sirens, so I looked, and they were chasing a red Jeep. The bus hit it, and then I come around, and there were cops chasing the guys."

WHAM added that the crash happened right in front of Damion Sawyer's house, and the carjacked Jeep ended up in his lawn. Sawyer told WHAM he's glad his two children weren't playing in the yard at the time of the crash.

"When I came and ran out, the car was up on my lawn," Sawyer noted to WHAM.

Who was arrested?

WHAM said Maliq McCullough, 20, was charged with robbery, assault, and two counts of grand larceny; he was taken to Monroe County Jail.

Adeosun Hughes, 23, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was issued an appearance ticket.
