Vivek Ramaswamy is an American entrepreneur and politician who has recently announced his candidacy for the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries — and he has a lot to say about former President Trump.
Steve Deace had Vivek on his show to discuss.
“Do you think Operation Warp Speed was a success?” Deace asks Vivek.
“I don’t. I think that it was an example of crony capitalism,” Vivek answers.
Vivek believes that “we need to divorce the private sector from government because that’s where a lot of cronyism festers.”
Deace then asks Vivek if he believes the COVID vaccines were safe and effective and whether they saved millions of lives as Trump had claimed.
“Well,” Vivek begins, “I think that relative to when they came out versus what we now know, we have to react to the new information. I think the public was in many ways duped by what they were told. Unfortunately, it took a couple of years to be able to see that.”
Vivek says while he’s critical of Operation Warp Speed, he got both shots. He would have done it differently had the information available to the public now been what was available then.
“If I was to go through it again,” he continues, “I wouldn’t have done it the same way. I think that gives you the clearest answer I possibly can give.”
Deace then asks Vivek if President Trump made the right decision in giving “the COVID vaccine makers essentially unlimited liability protection.”
“No,” Vivek explains, “that’s another example of, again, special rules.”
“Special rules, which is a special form of immunity for vaccine manufacturers that didn’t apply to any other manufacturers.”
“I don’t like special favoritism as a product of lobbying. I reject it, and I stand on principle there,” Vivek finishes.
