Florida driver killed in freak accident with 11-foot alligator

A Florida man died after his car collided with an 11-foot alligator on Thursday, according to police reports.
John Hopkins, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies found his car overturned in a ditch. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkins’ car veered off the road after hitting the massive reptile that was crossing the road in Lithia, Florida. Lithia is approximately 20 miles southeast of Tampa.
Deputies responded to the crash after a passing motorist spotted the wreckage and called 911. The alligator was also killed in the collision, officials said.
