Missouri Dem calls for Trump's assassination -- is this a sign of things to come?

A Missouri Democrat was removed from eight committees following a Facebook status calling for the assassination of the president.

Senate leaders stripped Democratic State Sen. Maria Chappell-Nadal of her committee assignments after she posted to Facebook last week: "I hope Trump is assassinated!" Chapelle-Nadal later deleted the Aug. 10 Facebook post following mounting backlash and issued a forced public apology at a press conference.

“President Trump, I apologize to you and your family,” Chappelle-Nadal said during a live Facebook stream. “I also apologize to all the people in Missouri. And I also apologize to my colleagues in the Missouri legislature for the mistake that I made.”

“I made a mistake. And I’m owning up to it.”

Although she expressed remorse for her comments, she remained defiant when calls for her resignation and an apology surged from colleagues on both sides of the aisle, including Missouri Republican Gov. Eric Greitens and Republican lieutenant governor, Mike Parson. A special voting session was called by lawmakers to vote to oust Chappell-Nadal from office if she refuses to resign.
