One out of every three Californians wants to secede from the U.S.

A recent poll from Reuters/Ipsos reveals that one out of every three Californians wants to secede from the United States. Many of the those who voted to secede were Democrats expressing their outrage at the election of Donald Trump.

"I don't think it's likely to happen, but if things get really bad it could be an option," said one voter.

"There's such hostility towards Trump," said Democratic political consultant Steve Maviglio, "that many citizens believe it would be smarter to leave than fight."

A Democratic party activist named Bruce Rubly told Reuters/Ipsos pollsters that he "strongly supported" a California secession, especially if the Republican government in control now implements a host of legislation that he's opposed to. "There's a whole series of things that are going to get Californians riled up," said Rubly. "And if (Trump) pushes those buttons in the wrong way, there's going to be hell to pay."
