It’s been five years since deranged gunman Adam Lanza murdered 20 first-graders and six faculty at Sandy Hook Elementary School with a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle.
Remembering the nightmarish massacre on its anniversary today, various political activists, celebrities, and media figures are demanding gun control laws on social media.
Five years ago today, 20 babies & 6 adults were massacred in the #SandyHook shooting.

Congress sat by then & it is actively participating in the promotion of gun violence now.
We owe it to those children - & everyone affected by gun violence- to DO SOMETHING.#SandyHook5yrs pic.twitter.com/MlqkJvxBRe
This is why we need different Congresspeople. I may not be able to change everything, but I will fight like a tiger for common-sense gun law reform...& I will not stop. #SandyHook, #Columbine, #LasVegasShooting, #domesticviolence, #suicide, & too many more reasons why. https://t.co/9YQ6bfqvRq

Grab a box of tissue, read @jaketapper’s thread today. We owe it to those kids, the teachers who also lost their lives in #SandyHook, all their loved ones missing them this Christmas, to remember. We also owe it to them to pass common-sense gun & mental health laws. ???? https://t.co/uLlx26ZSkc

GOP policy: fetuses are children and we must change the law to protect them, but children murdered at #SandyHook don't rate a change in gun control laws.

I’m in tears remembering these little innocent lives that were lost #SandyHook . 5 years ago today. Praying for their families. Please can we have #gunsafetylaws ? What does it have to take ? @MomsDemand @Everytown https://t.co/bv7Z5lGWPQ

Five years later, Republicans have done more to protect your guns than your children.

Hey, @SpeakerRyan, today is the 5th anniversary of the #Sandyhook massacre, in which 20 first graders were murdered.

Is now “the time to discuss gun legislation?”
I’ll wait.
Today is the fifth anniversary of the mass shooting at #SandyHook Elementary School. Twenty children and six educators were slaughtered. I keep a copy of this @NYDailyNews cover in my office because these children are why we fight for commonsense gun safety laws. #HonorWithAction pic.twitter.com/i705szxVuo

The 20 children and six adults killed five years ago from today at #SandyHook Elementary School in Newtown, CT will always be remembered.

Except by every Republican Member of Congress, who just voted to loosen gun laws & have taken no action on #guncontrol. Dems will. 2018. pic.twitter.com/IMYjcecgOe
Since #SandyHook, our nation has seen an epidemic of gun violence. But we can't become numb to the violence or headlines. I won't stop fighting for stronger gun laws — and neither should you.
— Andrew Cuomo (@NYGovCuomo) December 14, 2017
No one calling for gun control has, as yet, suggested what new law would prevent mass shootings or why law-abiding gun owners should have their fundamental right to own firearms infringed.
