Extreme majority of grassroots org Club for Growth supports Jim Jordan for speaker
August 30, 2018
Ask the members of the Club for Growth who should be speaker of the House of Representatives, and they'll tell you: Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
More than 250,000 grassroots fiscal conservatives are a part of the Club for Growth network. A new survey conducted by the Club with a sample size of 3,800 members found that 95 percent of members polled support Jordan for speaker. The remaining five percent said House majority leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., should advance to lead the House if the GOP retains control.
“Jordan’s massive margin of support reflects the disappointment economic conservatives have in the current House Leadership,” said Club for Growth President David McIntosh in a press statement announcing the poll results.
“The Leadership failed to keep its campaign pledges to fully repeal Obamacare and control government spending. Not only is Obamacare still the law of the land, the House Leadership pressured Republican Members of Congress to vote for an annual budget that puts the U.S. on the path to a $1 trillion deficit by 2020,” McIntosh explained.
“We think Jim Jordan will help Republicans keep the majority. Multiple polls have shown an ‘enthusiasm gap’ favoring Democrats that could cost Republicans control of the House in the fall election. That’s what can happen when you don’t deliver,” McIntosh added. “We need effective conservative leaders like Jim Jordan who will keep their campaign promises if we are to keep control of the House out of the hands of Nancy Pelosi and her ilk.”
