Children are used as 'tickets for adults': Dan Crenshaw on the real humanitarian crisis at the border

'The Mexican government doesn't have any operational control over the southern border. Drug cartels do'

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) sat down with Eric Bolling in this episode of "America with Eric Bolling" to shed light on how drug cartels have made a very lucrative business of getting people across the U.S.-Mexico border illegally by using children as "tickets for adults" to seek asylum once inside. They discussed the humanitarian crisis created by these ruthless cartels and how it also displaces asylum-seekers who are waiting to get into the country legally.

"We have a set of laws, a set of policies in place that make it preferable to bring a child across. Immigrants have now figured out that they can take advantage of our system by bringing a child across and claiming asylum," the congressman explained. "But what also happens, is they owe somebody for that ability to cross the border because, it turns out the Mexican government doesn't have any operational control over the southern border. Drug cartels do."

Asked by Eric if the children in question are victims of human trafficking, the lawmaker answered, "Some of them are trafficked, yes. And obviously some are families. ... What the Border Patrol sees often is the same kid being recycled through and through because those kids act as tickets for the adults."

"In the one day I was there, 16 kids were found to be with adults who weren't their parents," Crenshaw said. "On further questioning, they actually found a stash house in Houston with about 50 or so migrants inside. Some were already processed but weren't allowed to leave that house ... because they hadn't paid yet. They hadn't paid the drug cartels. They [cartels] have complete operational control over that border, and they've made a huge business out of this because there's no risk for them actually. It's not like drug-running where there's serious risk."
