Sweden, Canada are not socialist countries: Philosophy prof Stephen Hicks explains

They got where they are "by being free market, capitalist oriented nations"

Author and Professor of Philosophy, Stephen R. C. Hicks, sat down in the studio with Glenn Beck to discuss the principles and politics of both socialism and capitalism. Hicks also dispelled the myth that Sweden, Canada and other countries with heavily tax-supported governments, are examples of successful socialist economies, as they are so often cited on the left.

"On economic freedom, Canada and Sweden are all in the top ten percent of nations around the world. They got there by largely being free market, capitalist oriented nations," Hicks explained. "But because they've become so rich, they can now, to some extent, afford some redistribution -- some more interventionistic and in some cases, outright socialistic measures."
