Not in My Backyard

The headline on MSNBC.com right now highlights the conclusion of a new NBC/WSJ poll:

PUBLIC WORRIED BUDGET CUTS WILL IMPACT THEIR LIVES

If that summary is at all accurate then we are in even worse shape than I thought. Yes, Public, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but budget cuts will definitely impact your life. If getting the country back on a responsible track could be done without inflicting any pain then don't you think it would've happened a long time ago?

To me this is the NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) syndrome applied to the budget: We need to cut programs...just not the ones that affect me.  Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride...
