Update: Police Question Pakistani Girl's Suicide Vest Story

"Initial police reports of security incidents in Pakistan are sometimes wrong."

Yesterday, The Blaze reported that a 9-year-old girl had allegedly been kidnapped by militants on her way to school. According to police, they forced her to wear a suicide bomb vest, but she managed to escape her captors as they directed her to attack a paramilitary checkpoint in northwest Pakistan. But, now, questions and doubts about the story are emerging.

The young girl, identified as Sohana Jawed, a third-grader, claimed that the abduction happened on Sunday. But, police in Peshawar, Pakistan, claim that there have been no complaints about a missing girl and that they have no evidence that a resident exists with that name. Also, they note that school has recessed for the summer and that no schools are open on Sundays. MSNBC has more:

Paramilitary officials say the girl was probably abducted from an area much farther north and kidnapped for ransom.

The girl comes from a poor family and her father is said to be a heroin addict, according to NBC News. After she was paraded in front of TV cameras, her family received death threats and have now gone into hiding, NBC reported.

Initial police reports of security incidents in Pakistan are sometimes wrong.

Police plan to have the girl spend some time with a psychiatrist and will question her once she is "normalized." Hopefully they will then be able to gather more information about the girl's family, alleged abduction, etc. Watch below for more from NBC:
