Santorum Admits: I Must Finish 'Top 5' in Iowa Straw Poll to Stay in The Race

"Our feeling is that we need to finish in the top five... the higher up in the top five we are, the better."

Former PA Senator Rick Santorum came to Iowa with the intention of visiting all of the state's 99 counties and making a respectable showing in the upcoming straw poll.

What does Mr. Santorum consider to be a "respectable showing?" He visited the Des Moines studios of Newsradio 1040 last week and spoke with News Radio 1040's Simon Conway about his expectations for the upcoming Iowa straw polls. According to him, he must finish fifth or better to stay in the race. If not, he said that would send a "serious signal" that he doesn't have the "kind of support" he needs:

These comments from last week show the importance of the straw poll, and how it has the power to make or break campaigns.

The LA Times is reporting that the candidate's people are saying a 4th place finish is expected. However, an unscientific, post-debate poll taken by The Blaze has Santorum finishing in 6th place. Bad sign?
