Distinctive Underwear Helps Police Identify Burglar with Baggy Shorts

A teen burglar was put behind bars after trying to break into a pikcup truck in Port Charlotte, Florida. When preparing for the crime, the 14-year-old likely never expected that the distinctive red underwear he wore that day would be the key to his capture. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune on Antonio Kleiss, the accused would-be thief:

"According to a Charlotte County Sheriff's news release, a woman saw a young man acting suspiciously inside a truck in the 2200 block of Aaron Street in Port Charlotte around 9:15 p.m. The woman confronted the boy, who was wearing tan shorts and a hooded sweatshirt, and told him to stay there until deputies could respond.

But the boy, 14, ran away, and as he did, his shorts fell down to reveal he was wearing red boxer shorts, the release said.

A bit later, the boy was found in a nearby apartment complex, and his identity as the suspected burglar was confirmed when the boy was asked to pull down his shorts a tad, revealing the red underwear the witness confirmed was the same worn earlier by the burglar."

NBC 2 reports that the boy was staying at his grandmother's apartment in the complex, and while inside the residence authorities found an ignition part that had been stolen from inside the truck. Kliess was arrested for felony burglary and attempted grand theft. He was released from Charlotte County jail to a parent, and is to serve a 21-day home detention.
