John Edwards says he's sick

We already knew John Edwards is sick. But he's asking that his trial, scheduled to begin Jan. 30, be delayed to cope with an illness.

Edwards' defense team filed a motion for the delay: "The Defendant has a medical issue ... that will prevent a trial of this matter during the January 2012 Criminal Term," the motion says, according to the New York Daily News. "The failure to grant a continuance would be likely to result in a miscarriage of justice."

The illness has not been publicly disclosed.

Twice already Edwards has asked that the trial be delayed. It was each time.

Edwards is charged with six counts of campaign finance violations. He allegedly illegally used campaign donations to help his pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter during his run in the 2008 presidential election.
