It's a photo that's starting to make the rounds. And once you see it, you likely won't forget it.
The photo shows a male pit bull refusing to leave the side of his dead companion, a female pit bull that appears to have been hit by a car.
The picture was taken in Phoenix, AZ. Local station KSAZ-TV has more information, including that the male dog refused to leave his friend's side for over 14 hours:
The female pit bull was hit sometime Friday night, and lay dead on the side of a Phoenix road. The male pit bull wouldn't leave her, so a nearby business set out food and water.
This is the heartbreaking picture that was shared over 200 times on Facebook over the weekend.
He stayed with there nuzzling her and lying nearby until the city came to remove her Saturday morning. It was 14 and half hours.
Local animal control believes the surviving dog has an owner because of its blue harness. But no one has come forward as of yet to claim him.
"He is doing well," Rodrigo Silva, a local animal control official, said. "He's a little withdrawn and he appears to be very sad."
The shelter where the dog was taken is monitoring him for any behavioral issues and then will decide whether to put him up for adoption.
Back in April, a similar picture surfaced of a Lab refusing to leave its fallen partner's side in Los Angeles.
