New ad: L.A. council sided with celebrities over local business to ban plastic bags

Late last month Los Angeles became the largest city in America to enact a plastic bag ban.

The City Council voted 13 to 1 to phase out plastic bags over the next 16 months at an estimated 7,500 stores, meaning shoppers will need to bring reusable bags or purchase paper bags for 10 cents each.

Hollywood starlets Eva Longoria (a co-chair of President Barack Obama's reelection campaign), Rosario Dawson and Julia Louis-Dreyfus lobbied for the ban. Now a new ad by the American Progressive Bag Alliance criticizes L.A. councilmen for being "star struck" over the celebrities and ignoring local business people who complained that a ban on plastic bags would cost them their jobs.
