Send Him Back to Chicago -- Or Kenya': Campaign for Wis. Candidate for U.S. Senate Apologizes for Son's Obama Joke

"we are taking donations for that Kenya trip"

The campaign for U.S. Senate hopeful from Wisconsin Tommy Thompson apologized Wednesday morning for comments made by the candidates son at GOP event in the state.

The event occurred on Sunday where Jason Thompson cracked a joke relating to President Obama's birth.

"We have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago -- or Kenya," he says in an edited video of the remarks posted on YouTube that opens with non-controversial statements made by GOP Chairman Reince Priebus:

BuzzFeed reports the comment made from a woman in the audience is "we are taking donations for that Kenya trip."

According to a statement emailed to BuzFeed, “The Governor has addressed this with his son, just like any father would do. Jason Thompson said something he should not have, and he apologizes.”

Thompson is the former governor of Wisconsin and also the former secretary of Health and Human Services. He currently trails his Democratic opponent by only three points.
