Obama talks to journalist off-the-record again

En route from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to campaign yesterday, President Obama had a chat with the pool reporter tagging along. It was, for whatever reason, an off-the-record talk, as seen in the pool report:

The big news for much of yesterday morning was that Obama called the editor of the Des Moines Register on Tuesday to ask for the Iowa newspaper's endorsement. The White House had requested it the conversation be "off-the-record" before later allowing it to be made public.

Officials talking off-the-record isn't unusual, but the unofficial rule when you're the president is that nothing is off the record.
