Now Fox Sources Claim the 'Flirtatious' Emails to Gen. Allen Were Much, Much More: Like 'Phone Sex

Yesterday we brought you the claim by a Fox News source that the thousands of pages of emails exchanged between Florida woman Jill Kelley (who one left-wing blog suggests could be a spy) were "flirtatious" but that the relationship was not sexual in nature. But now the network is bringing to light other sources who seem to suggest -- at least in the emails -- the relationship was quite steamy.

"One senior defense official initially described the nature of the communications between Allen and Kelley as 'flirtatious,'" the new report says. "However, two U.S. officials later told Fox News that Allen's contact with Kelley was more than just general flirting. One official described some of the emails as sexually explicit and the 'equivalent of phone sex over email.'"

Another source assures Fox that if the emails were harmless, Defense Secretary Leon Panneta wouldn't have turned the situation over to a special investigator:

"This was a serious enough matter that those who examined the emails thought it should be referred to the secretary of defense, and the secretary made the decision to turn it over to the inspector general," the official said. "He would not have thrust this into the limelight without good cause."

Kelley is the woman who is also involved in the David Petraeus scandal. She was the one who was harassed by Petraeus's mistress, Paula Broadwell, and whose complaints to the FBI eventually led to the discovery of Petraeus's impropriety.

Allen still remains the head of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan. He was expected to be confirmed after a Senate hearing on Thursday to head U.S. and NATO forces in Europe. That, however, is now on hold pending the investigation.

"Gen. Allen disputes that he has engaged in any wrongdoing in this matter," a source told Fox.
