This Actually Happened: NBA Ref Charges Court to Block Player's Shot

"That was just about the best defense that anyone played on the night against the Nets..."

Before today, you might not have known who Courtney Kirkland was, but you're about to see a lot of him.

That's because Kirkland pulled a move during Wednesday night's Nets-Raptors game that became an instant classic. During the fourth quarter of the game, Nets player Kris Humphries (yes, the one that was married to Kim Kardashian) was shooting a free throw. But right before he was about to release the ball, Kirklinand charged the court, lept, and tried to block Humphries' shot. It's one of the oddest plays you'll see.

So why did he do it? Well, at the last minute Kirkland noticed a player was trying to sub into the game. So instead of just blowing his whistle, he went all Michael Jordan. Naturally.

As for the game, SB Nation has you covered:

That was just about the best defense that anyone played on the night against the Nets, who defeated Toronto, 94-88. Humphries put up just 11 points and two rebounds, as the Nets were carried by Joe Johnson, C.J. Watson and the resurgent Andray Blatche.
