Christmas Miracle' - This Blind Dog, Lost in an Alaska Snowstorm, Returned Home Thanks to a Local Musher

“It’s a miracle, there’s no other words to describe it.”

When their blind, 8-year-old dog, Abby, went missing in an Alaska snowstorm, the Grapengeter family didn't expect to ever see her again.

Abby -- a short-haired brown-and-white mix -- disappeared Dec. 13 during the worst part of recent storms in Fairbanks and her family searched for several days in 40-below-zero temperatures before giving up, according to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

Then Sunday, the family got a call from a local musher, who found Abby on his doorstep about 1o miles from her home, according to the AP. With help from Facebook and the local community, the musher, Mark May, had been able to find her family. May, who also happened to be a veterinarian, was surprised to find her unharmed by the week-long ordeal.

“It’s a miracle, there’s no other words to describe it,” Abby's owner, McKenzie Grapengeter, told the News-Miner. “We never expected to have her to be returned safe and alive. She’s blind. It’s a miracle. It’s amazing.”
