First Lady Michelle Obama Describes Herself as a 'Busy Single Mother

While foot-in-mouth moments happen to all public figures from time to time, first lady Michelle Obama has come under particular scrutiny for her consistent attempts at painting herself as an average, everyday woman. The most recent verbal faux pas came during an interview with Burlington, Vt. CBS affiliate WCAX, when the first lady described herself as a “busy single mother.”

Perhaps realizing the backlash such a statement would cause, Mrs. Obama quickly backtracked, qualifying, “sometimes when you’ve got the husband who’s president, it can feel a little single, but he’s there.”
