President Barack Obama vowed to find and bring to justice those responsible for the explosions that rocked the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing two people and injuring dozens.

"Any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice," Obama told reporters in the White House briefing room Monday evening. "We'll find out who did this and we will hold them accountable."

He did not use the word "terrorism" to describe what happened, and later ignored reporters' shouted questions about a terror connection as he left the podium.

"We still do not know who did this or why, and people shouldn't jump to conclusions before we have the facts," Obama said. "Make no mistake -- we will get to the bottom of this and we will find out who did this, we will find out why the did this."

Obama said that on days like this, "there are no Republicans and Democrats -- we are Americans united in concern for our fellow citizens."

UPDATE:

A White House official released a statement quickly after Obama finished his short speech using the word "terror."

"Any event with multiple explosive devices -- as this appears to be -- is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror," the official said, according to Politico.
