Rapper Kanye West was seen wearing a jacket emblazoned with a Confederate flag Saturday as he left the gym.
West was photographed by celebrity-gossip website XI7.
The often outspoken star, who recently recorded a song titled "New Slaves," defended the decision to sport the attire in an interview with Los Angeles' 97.1 AMP Radio.
“React how you want," West reportedly told the local radio station. "Any energy you got is good energy."
"You know the confederate flag represented slavery in a way -- that's my abstract take on what I know about it," he reportedly continued. "So I made the song 'New Slaves.' So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It's my flag now. Now what are you going to do?”
West also drew controversy when he featured the Confederate flag on merchandise promoting his latest album.
