Limbaugh Responds to Liberal Freak-Out Over His Children's Book Author of the Year Nomination

"They’re just beside themselves."

Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh on Monday dismissed critics who want the Children’s Book Council to retract its author of the year nomination for his book, “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims.”

“It has obviously irritated some on the left who are trying to get us de-nominated. That’s how intolerant they are,” Limbaugh said on his radio show, pointing to a recent Huffington Post article titled, “We Live In A World Where Rush Limbaugh Might Win A Children’s Book Award.”

“They’re just beside themselves,” he said.

Limbaugh said he was honored by the nomination and bragged that he was chosen in the “only national book awards program where the winners are selected by young people, kids and teenagers” in a “totally democratic” process.

Still, Limbaugh told his audience, the outrage that the nomination has generated is telling.

Take, for example, some of the things written by far-left websites, including Crooks and Liars: “Who would inflict a book by Rush Limbaugh on a child they loved?”

And then there was this headline from the DailyKos: “America's Worst Role Model Rush Limbaugh Up for Children's Author of the Year.”

The outcry was great enoug to prompt the Children’s Book Council to release a statement last week explaining that it doesn’t choose which books are nominated:

The Author of the Year and Illustrator of the Year finalists are determined solely based on titles’ performances on the bestseller lists – all titles in those categories are listed as a result of this protocol. Some of you have voiced concerns over the selection of finalists from bestseller lists, which you feel are potentially-manipulable indications of the success of a title. We can take this into consideration going forward, but cannot change our procedure for selecting finalists after the fact.

But despite the complaints and less-than-flattering headlines, Limbaugh is pleased with the nomination.

"It is a distinct high honor and all of us here are very proud," he said Monday.
