Minneapolis police have arrested three individuals connected to the brutal beating of a young girl that was caught on camera and posted to Facebook earlier this month — and police say it was partially motivated by a desire to steal the victim's smartphone.
According to KMSP-TV, authorities have arrested three unidentified juvenile suspects. They say stealing the girl's smartphone was part of their motive.
"There's a huge black market for electronic devices and that's a problem right now," Cmdr. Bruce Folkens told KMSP.
"We seen a bunch of girls jumping and attacking her over some money," witness Terry Freeman said.
After the fight, blood was seen stained on the cement where it took place.
"That's my first time ever seeing a fight like that," witness Allente McReyonalds said. "That's messed up — like, she was bleeding from her nose and her mouth too."
The violent robbery took place after classes were completed at Roosevelt High School. Before the video of the assault was removed from social media, it was brought to the attention of school officials.
Police say the girl will recover from her injuries and authorities are now looking to see whether the trio have been involved in similar crimes.
