Mitt Romney Reveals Why He Never Thanked Glenn Beck for This Priceless Historical Artifact

Glenn Beck revealed Monday that the weekend before the 2012 presidential election, he gave Mitt Romney a priceless, first-edition copy of George Washington's farewell address. Beck put it in the hands of Josh Romney, the Republican nominee's son, and explained that it was his personal copy and extremely valuable.

"I never got a thank-you note," Beck said, recapping the situation Wednesday. "And I understand how things go ... people send me stuff all the time, and I can't write a thank-you note ... however, this was George Washington's farewell address, first edition ... and I know the Romneys. We're not buddies, but I know them. And I said, 'If he doesn't like it or doesn't want it, please send it back.'"

Beck said that after he first spoke about the incident on his radio program Monday, Romney emailed him with an explanation: he never received the document.

"I heard I failed to send you a thank-you note for your precious book you kindly gave me during the campaign," Romney's email read. "I am so sorry for the error ... I'm afraid that when you learn the reason I failed to send you a note, you will be even less happy."

That's when Romney admitted he never received the document and was never aware it had been given to him. At the moment, no one seems to know where the first-edition copy of George Washington's farewell address is.

Beck said that after he received the email around 3:00 a.m., he was unable to fall back asleep and it made his "eyes bleed for about an hour." However, he praised Romney for his honesty.

"Most people would have said, 'I wrote you a note! I'm so sorry, I don't know what happened." Beck said. "He didn't even lie and say, 'We got so busy, and it's so great!' He went the hardest possible route [and admitted it got misplaced] ... his integrity and his personal sense of duty, I really like."

"It is nice to see," Beck concluded. "A guy I don't agree with politically, but it is nice to see a man who has courage ... There is nothing to gain by him telling me that. Nothing to gain."
