"When I tried to communicate and ask him questions, I realized that he was unresponsive."

A California police officer's body camera recorded a daring rescue that unfolded in Escondido early Sunday morning.

Officer Joseph Putulowski arrived at a scene of an accident at about 1:30 a.m. to find an individual unconscious in his burning car.

"When I tried to communicate and ask him questions, I realized that he was unresponsive — he was bleeding profusely from the head," Putulowski told KGTV.

When his attempt to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher proved useless, Putulowski got into the burning car and pulled Uriel Basurto Sierra to safety.

Sierra was later arrested, however, on suspicion of felony drunken driving in connection with the crash and was being held on $100,000 bond, according to KGTV.

Another vehicle was involved in the incident. All individuals were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
