School Bus Rolls Over 5-Year-Old's Feet, Breaking Four of His Toes — But Just Watch Little Bubba Bring the Spunk Later That Day
September 20, 2014
"I knew it got ranned over. I feeled it happen."
When Kristi Delany's heard the words her daughter yelled — "My brother got hit by the bus!" — the mom of four panicked, quite understandably.
"I was scared he was going to be dead on the street," Delany told KUSA-TV in Denver.
After Delany ran from her apartment to the terrifying scene, she discovered her 5-year-old son Bubba's injuries thankfully weren't fatal — but he still withstood quite an impact.
A crowd of 50 Gust Elementary School students were were running toward the bus at Bubba's stop on Thursday morning, KUSA noted — and whether he got shoved or fell is unknown, but the kindergartner's feet found their way under the bus wheel, which rolled over them.
Bubba was rushed to the hospital and had three broken toes on one foot and a broken toe on the other, the station noted.
But despite bruises and fractures and enduring a scary encounter, Bubba seemed charged up for the news cameras later in the day.
"I knew it got ranned over," Bubba told KUSA matter-of-factly. "I feeled it happen."
He even calculated the impact and determined the damages: "It hit my leg and my leg was gone."
And he's nothing if not optimistic about how long he'll need to stay off his feet...
"I can't walk for a day!" Bubba exclaimed.
Bubba's passionate commentary might be the best thing about this news report:
The station noted that the bus driver is upset over the accident, adding that police said the driver — placed on administrative leave — most likely will not be cited.
