Police in Atlanta are investigating what may have led 23-year-old Derrick Weems to run naked around Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport early Thursday morning.
Passengers said Weems was screaming about his love for Jesus and about he's going to heaven. Spokeswoman Kim Jones of the Atlanta Police Department said someone called the police when Weems, also a passenger, suddenly "appeared nude… and began yelling and acting erratically," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Gregory Evans, a passenger who captured part of the event on video, said it took police too long to arrive, WSB-TV reported.
“No security, no police or nothing," Evans said.
While police say they got there in seven minutes, Evans said it took them 30 minutes to arrive. Either way, when police did arrive they were unable to calm the man down. That's when they "used a Taser to control the situation without a struggle," WSB-TV reported. Police then arrested the man and took him to a mental hospital for an evaluation.
Weems has been charged with disorderly conduct.
