Watch Harry Reid's tirade against Senate Republicans: 'Do you so dislike President Obama?

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday blasted Republicans for what he said was an attempt to inject themselves into the Iran nuclear negotiations, and accused the GOP of acting out of "abhorrence" for President Barack Obama.

"This letter is a hard slap in the face of not only the United States but our allies," he said on the Senate floor. "It's unprecedented for one political party to directly intervene in an international negotiation with the sole goal of embarrassing the president of the United States."

"Do you so dislike President Obama that you would take this extraordinary step? Obviously so," he added.

Senate Republicans wrote an open letter to tell Iran that Congress will review any nuclear deal that's complete, or if not, that deal would just be an executive agreement that could be modified later. It appeared to be an attempt to warn Iran that they must agree to dismantle all capacity to build nuclear weapons.

But Reid said this interference will undermine Obama's effort to finalize an agreement, and said Republicans took this step out of hatred for Obama.

"Sadly, though, the judgment of my Republican colleagues seems to be clouded by their abhorrence of President Obama," he said. He also added that Democrats never attempted to reach out to America's enemies when President George W. Bush was in office.

"Even at the height of our disagreement with President George W. Bush, Senate Democrats never considered sending a letter to Saddam Hussein or other Iraqi leaders at the time," he said.

Reid concluded by saying Republicans are failing to run Congress smoothly, which is why they have been reduced to attacking Obama.

"Obviously, Republicans don't know how to anything other than attempt seemingly juvenile attacks against the president," he said. "Congressional Republicans don't know how to get things done, they don't know how to govern."

"The dislike of the president is so intense by Republican leaders that this is what they're doing," he added. "They can't accept the fact that this good man, Barack Obama, this man with the unusual name, was elected twice by overwhelming margins by the people of this country."
