Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams choked back tears as he told reporters Thursday night that a 5-month-old child's life had been claimed by gunfire.

"Another innocent child in our city has been taken from us basically by thugs out there in the streets that want to carry on this vendetta, or whatever they call it against each other, and our innocent babies get caught in the crossfire," Williams said.
The chief went on to say, "There are people who know what happened tonight. Things are all over Facebook, all over social media." And he urged anyone with information come forward.
According to Williams, his officers have been instructed to "stay on this for as long as it takes."
"We want bodies in jail tonight for this crime," he continued.
Pointing out that this has been "tough" for the family of the baby, he added, "This should not be happening in our city," trying to contain his emotions. "We've got to do something about it."
Watch the chief's emotional response:
Williams was addressing reporters on the killing of Aavielle Wakefield, who died Thursday while riding in a car with her mother, who was driving, and two other men. According to WEWS-TV, a woman called 911 and told the dispatcher that "someone was shooting at our car and they shot the baby."
Wakefield was taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
