Clinton Complains She's Held to Unfair 'Hillary Standard' — and Many of Her Critics Agree
July 24, 2016
"I often feel like there’s the Hillary standard and then there’s the standard for everybody else."
There is an unfair “Hillary standard” and then the “standard for everyone else,” presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton told “60 Minutes.”
In an interview that aired on CBS over the weekend, Clinton pushed back against the repeated claim from critics that she is a “corrupt” politician. In fact, she claimed she isn’t treated the same as everyone else.
“I often feel like there’s the Hillary standard and then there’s the standard for everybody else,” she said. “It is a lot of…unfounded, inaccurate, mean-spirited attacks with no basis in truth, reality — which take on a life of their own.”
Several of her conservative critics agreed that Clinton is held to a different standard, but not in the way the former secretary of state intended. Many Twitter users cited the Justice Department’s decision not to bring charges in her private email scandal and the Benghazi attacks as two examples of the “Hillary standard.”
Here are just some of the reactions:
