Hermine is the first hurricane to affect the "Big Bend" portion of the Florida panhandle in more than a decade. It is predicted to travel over north Florida into south Georgia and up the eastern seaboard. Strong winds are expected to reach all the way up to Virginia.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday said the storm would be "life threatening" and encouraged residents and visitors to "get a plan."
