NBC hires Olympian who bashed Mike Pence for his Christian beliefs on gay marriage

Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has stayed in headlines for the past month for his repeated attacks on Vice President Mike Pence. Rippon routinely bashes Pence for his Christian view of gay marriage. Rippon is the first openly gay Olympian.

Now the bronze medal winner is in headlines because NBC has hired him as an Olympic correspondent.

According to USA Today, NBC announced the hire on Sunday. Rippon will serve as a correspondent for the remainder of the Olympic games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

NBC spokesman Greg Hughes told USA Today that Rippon will do work for TV, digital and social media.

Rippon was a member of the U.S. team that won a bronze medal in group figure skating competition. He later secured a 10th place finish in male individual competition.

He originally made headlines last month when he slammed the selection of Pence to lead the American delegation at the Winter Games. He later took a shot at Pence on Instagram during the games.

Rippon has also declared he will skip a visit to the White House in protest of Pence and the Trump administration.
